HSBC

Full Time: ODS 3 - 0 HSBC (Half time: 1 - 0)
Scorers: Liang Han (x01), Kiran (x01), Sng (x01)
Man Of Match: Mark Penu (sorry guys, i copied and paste :P)

Today was the 2nd game we had against this team. The game started normally with no real danger coming from either side. The keeper mishandled what appears to be a harmless cross from Osman and quick response from the panther(Elango) who knock the ball which seem goalbound, having in the end Liang Han tapping it in to confirm the goal. 1-0.

Osman got freed once down the left flank only for his lob badly executed. Another well attemptted long free kick by Hanz whezz past the goal post by some inches.

Though there was much crosses coming in from the opponent into the box, Dennis our 3rd choice keeper appears to handle most (if not all) of the crosses very well.

The game was pretty uninteresting after this before heading into the 2nd half.

2nd Half started with only 2 changes to the strike force. Kiran and Sng. The 1st ten minutes we did not manage to get the ball to the strikers - guess we may have miss the absence of Mark Teo who was playing for the other side.

Things got livelier suddenly with Osman supplying some good chances to both Kiran and Sng, but somehow both were often caught wasting the chances. Even Sng who was usually clinical in his finish - somehow failed to convert the chances.

He did score one though, when Liang Han has a good run down the right flank by beating 2 defenders and his cross from the bye-line found the head of Sng who headed it into the net only to be denied wrongly, as the referee decided the ball was out before the cross was made.

Mark Teo playing for the opponent came closest to scoring when his shot from outside the penalty box hit the goal post which Mark cleared from his follow up.

Collecting a long ball from Rosk Osman, Kiran this time finally converted this chance by lobbing over the keeper. Shortly, Sng followed up by making up his earlier misses by scoring our 3rd goal.

Announcement: Please note for this coming saturday (12th July 2008), we will be having a small dinner gathering with our overseas opponent from Kota Tinggi. Please make time for it.

HSBC

FULL REPORT BY KEN WONG

This week, I was "requested" to write the report again, after last week's wonderful report.
So I have decided to write it fast, so I won't forget much of the actions, lest I MIGHT be accused of ONLY remembering MY goals and I only write report fast when I win the Man Of Match Report.

Anyway, let's get down to "business".

ODS 4 - 2 HSBC
Scorers: Kim Chuan (x01), Irwin (x01), Liang Han (x02)
Man Of Match: Kumar the Keeper!!! (was tied at 4votes each with Liang Han, but Mark Teo gave the deciding vote to Kumar)

NO yellow card... Looks like if these maintain, considering that we haven't gotten any for the past few... months??? We might just be able to "win" a place in the UEFA Cup through the Fairplay Award!!!

Before the game starts, as the referee was late, ODS has the time to do quite a bit of warming up.
And Ken Wong was practising his free kicks from just outside the box, but twice (not once), he ballooned his shots and it flew over the tall fence!!!
Next thing you know, he was taking shots from 40yards out!!! With most of them on target!!! And he had one that went in off the crossbar from about 25yards out. BUT... All these are only during warming up.

(I just had to write something about myself... in order to "entertain" the members and possible "fans" to be...) =P

Finally, to the match.

Starting XI
Keeper: Kumar
Def (L-R): Hairy, Mark Penu, Hans, Tony
Mid (L-R): Osman, Dennis, Wee Kiat, Ken Wong
Att: Kim Chuan, Liang Han

HSBC started this exciting game. And they tried an audacious shot from half way line. But that was no problem for shot stopper Kumar, who saved the ball with ease.

After Kumar kicked the ball up, the ball was headed directly back at ODS defence. Hans, under pressure, played a high ball to Hairy on the left who has some problem controlling the ball. With the pressure still on ODS defence, Hairy passed the ball down to Osman, who was then robbed in midfield. The opponent then released the ball to their speedy striker no. 11, who took on Mark Penu and Hans. He was able to outpace them and he striked the ball with fury at goal. Kumar was well placed, and he got a hand on the ball, but the shot was too powerful and ODS could only look on helplessly as the ball bounced into the goal.

0-1 (At only 3minutes on the clock at most, and players like Liang Han and Ken Wong has yet to even touch the ball!!!)

After the restart, it seems like ODS has yet to settle into the game, losing the ball in midfield a couple of times. Perhaps it was because Mark Teo, one of ODS key players, was playing for the opponents on this day, and he was a crucial factor.

Mark Teo won the ball in midfield, and he lobbed the ball over ODS defence, and ODS was caught too flat in the backline, and HSBC no. 11 raced through on goal yet again. But he was wickedly denied his second goal by the crossbar.

This shot seems to have woken up ODS, who then started their series of attacks. And the effort soon paid off. With Osman cleverly laying a through ball to Kim Chuan, who managed to shake off his markers, and Kim Chuan took a low show across goal and it beat the keeper on the far post.

1-1

Soon after the restart, Dennis was forced to go off, after he bravely went in for a tackle and twisting his ankle in the process. And once again, he show us his unique substitution hand signal.
Irwin went in for the injured Dennis.

ODS continued to pour down the attack under the scorching sun winning many corners in the process. And Kim Chuan's runs at goal proved to be a problem for the opponents. Liang Han too was a "handful" for the opponents. Or should I say a hand too many? With his "octopus" hands, his arms were swinging and "flying" about, especially when he's turning. With this special move of his, the opponents found it difficult to rob his of the ball.

During one corner, the ball fell to Mark Penu, who had a well taken shot, and the shot had the keeper beaten but not the post.

ODS took the lead through Irwin, who volleyed the ball beautifully into the goal from just outside the penalty area. The ball was headed out from a cross and it went towards Irwin who was waiting to pounced, and he volleyed the ball on the drop. Sweet.

2-1

As the game progressed, ODS backline was often troubled by HSBC speedy strikers. Perhaps 'cause ODS defence was too flat today, but there was no fear as we have reliable Kumar in goal, who saved us on many occasions, proving he is still one of the best shot stopper around.

On one counter attack, Kim Chuan was released on the left, and he cut the ball into the six yard box. Liang Han, even though under intense pressure from his marker, ran in and slided the ball past the line.

3-1

HSBC is not a team that gives up that easily, and they fought hard, taking many shots, but Kumar earned his Man Of the Match by saving every single one of them.

ODS too, had their bags of tricks, and attacked in numbers, with Tony racing down to the byline and sending in a cross. Tony later claimed this is the first time he actually went so close to the byline and even crossed in years!!!

Half Time
We only had one change during half time today.
Melvin coming in for Tony, and Ken Wong was switched to right back while Melvin played in right midfield.

ODS restarted the game, hoping to extend their lead.

Despite numerous attacks in the second half, ODS just couldn't find they goal that they wanted.
And HSBC was dangerous on the counter, down the flanks, through the middle. And they got a goal from one of their counter attack, when a through ball was played, and no. 11 was the danger man yet again. He showed the ODS defence his heels and next thing you know, he placed the ball past helpless Kumar in a one-on-one situation.

3-2

That goal seems to be some steroids for HSBC. HSBC began their own series of attacks.

During one incident, HSBC no. 11 already lost his footing, and Mark Penu was using his body and muscles to shake him off to get to the loose ball. But referee felt that Mark Penu pushed the striker to the ground and awarded the penalty to HSBC.

This penalty could be the decisive factor to the game, and no. 11 ran straight up and strike the ball. He had Kumar beaten, but not the crossbar. As the ball comes off the crossbar and bounced onto the ground, everyone ran for the ball, and it landed at the feet of a HSBC player, who played the ball forward back towards no. 11...* PPWEET* Offside, and ODS has a breath of relief.

Knowing that they could not rely on a slim slender 1goal lead, ODS ventured for the goal that can put them in the driving seat yet again.

And Osman-Liang Han partnership proved too deadly.
With Osman holding the ball up front, Liang Han (who has dropped into midfield to help with some defending) sped from midfield. Seeing Liang Han running, Osman played a brilliant ball for Liang Han, who then ran onto the ball, and took it past the on-rushing keeper and scored his brace from a tight angle.

4-2

That proved to be the deciding goal.
And the game ended shortly after.

There is NO game on 24/05/08, so please have a good rest.
Perhaps we can meet up for a drink. Any takers? <-- also from Ken Wong

Next game will be on 31/05/08.

Windsor Park FC

ODS 4 - 3 Windsor Park FC
Scorers: Gary (x01), Wee Kiat (x01), Mr Sng (x02)
Man Of Match: Mr Sng
Yellow Card: Mark Penu, Aidil
Injuries: Aidil (knee)

Starting Line-Up
Keeper: Kumar
Def (L-R): Yang Song, Mark Penu, Rosk, Kee Yong
Mid (L-R): Osman, Dennis, Gary, Elango
Att: Kim Chuan, Liang Han

In this seven-goal thriller, both teams played some fantastic football, which also saw the return of Mr Santokh to Victoria School field, one of the veterans who started out with Outdoor Specialist in the early 90s.

The visitors started the game, playing some possession-football, and were pretty dangerous on the break by their youth players.
They eventually got the first goal of the game, when Kumar failed to take control of a weak shot which saw the ball rolled slowly passed him into the back of the net.

ODS got the equaliser through Gary, after a shot from range, and it should be an easy shot to handle, but the keeper parried it into the oncoming Gary, who needs no invitation to score for ODS.

Half Time
Second Half XI
Keeper: Kumar
Def (L-R): Tony, Mark Penu, Rosk, Ken
Mid (L-R): Osman, Wee Kiat, Irwin, Aidil
Att: Mr Sng, Liang Han

ODS restarted the game, but it was the visitors who once again took the lead, after some poor defending. During a corner, ODS failed to clear the ball and resulted in a shot that had Kumar beaten. Ken was on the line, stretching his leg to the fullest, he managed to keep the ball off the line, but there was no other defenders around to clear the loose ball. And an unmarked opponent blasted it past the helpless ODS to take the lead.

ODS equalised again, after some scrappy series of events involving Osman and Wee Kiat, and Wee Kiat ended it by heading over the keeper into the goal.

Kumar then took his exit and in came Kee Yong.

ODS went in search of the winner, and during a corner, the ball fell to the feet of Ken outside the penalty area, and after beating one player, he cannoned a fierce shot that seemed destined for goal. But the keeper managed to pull off a spectacular save, flying in the air and stretching his arms to the maximum to block the shot out for another corner.

Somehow, on this occassion, ODS doesn't seem to learn from the lessons of man marking in the penalty area, especially in the six yards box. A corner from the right found a totally unmarked opponent who have the easiest of header, in the six yard box, beating Kee Yong and Tony who was guarding the far post.

And it was up to Mr Sng to save us, showing us what is the exact meaning of clinical finisher. Both times he scored, he was in the right place at the right time. First of his 2goals, he showed his predator instinct, the fox in the box, when a through ball was fed to him by Wee Kiat, he was calm and cool in shielding the ball from the defender and placing it past the keeper.

2nd goal he scored, a low cross came in from the right, and with his back facing the goal, and a defender sticking to him like a leech, he managed to slide and volleyed the ball past the unexpected keeper.

During the closing stages, we lost Aidil who fell and twisted his knee during a challenge. It seems really bad, considering that he needs to rely on clutches to move about after the game. We will wait for the results of his scan/medical report to determine his return date. We wish him all the best in his recovery.

Next week 19/04/08, game is on, against OCBC. Kick off promptly at 5pm.

ANNOUNCEMENT
On the right side under "Team History" section, there is a new section "2008 ODS Oversea Trip + "International" Match" for polling on whether do we have enough people who are keen on the trip, so that we can organise the trip. I have voted. Please note that the vote will expire on 27th April 2008. Also please vote ONCE

Marine Sunday

REPORTED BY KEN WONG
Venue: Victoria School
Final Score: 3 - 2
Scorers: Elango(x01), Gary(x01), Osman(x01), Ken (x01 OG)
Man of match: Mark Teo
Yellow Cards: Yang Song, Mark Penu
Injuries: Rosk (Calf - Return date unknown yet)

Starting XI
GK: Kumar
Def (L-R): Hans, Rosk, Mark Penu, Dennis
Mid (L-R): Osman, Yang Song, Mark Teo, Irwin
Att: Elango, Kim Chuan

Game started with both teams playing fluent passing football.

Marine Sunday had their first real chance in the first corner of the game. ODS made a mess from the clearance in the penalty area, and there was a shot on goal with Kumar beaten. But luckily, Dennis was there to clear the ball off the line...
In the next corner awarded to Marine Sunday, ODS somehow failed to really clear the ball again. But ODS got lucky again this time, when a shot from outside the penalty box cannoned off the crossbar and out for a goal kick.

ODS replied back firmly with Osman hitting the crossbar too at the other end of the pitch.

Marine Sunday drew first blood, when their striker managed to squeeze a shot in between 2defenders and left Kumar helpless, as he stood rooted and watched the ball fly pass him into the back of the net.

After the restart, ODS began to settle down more and played the ball around more beautifully. After a brilliant one-two, Elango was put through on goal, and using his left foot, he placed the shot low and past the keeper into the bottom right corner for the equaliser.

Shortly after, Rosk pulled his calf and had to be replaced by Kieran.
Punished by the hot scorching sun, Dennis had to take himself off the field and was replaced by Ken.

Half Time
2nd Half XI
GK: Kumar
Def (L-R): Yang Song, Mark Penu, Kieran, Ken
Mid (L-R): Osman, Wee Kiat, Mark Teo, Aidil
Att: Sng, Gary

ODS got the 2nd goal after a tame low shot was fumbled by Marine Sunday keeper, who gifted Gary his goal, when he dropped the ball onto Gary, who followed through brilliantly and pushed the ball into the back of the net.

Kumar was then replaced by Dennis, Sng was replaced by Kim Chuan.

Marine Sunday got their equaliser from an unfortunate own goal by Ken.
Marine Sunday was attacking down the flank on their right. And ODS shifted towards the left, and Ken was in the centre. A cross from Marine Sunday right winger had Kieran beaten, and Ken was the last man. Ken then tried run diagonally towards the goal line and tried to clear the float ball to the side with his right foot. He was unlucky that the ball skimmed off the inside of the of this foot and went towards his own goal. Dennis who came off the line probably trying to catch the ball, went scrambling back. But the ball was beyond his reach.

Sng then made some tactical changes saw Irwin coming in for Kim Chuan, and Osman moving upwards more as a free role.
Osman then had a chance from a free kick. Again, Marine Sunday made a mess out of the shot, with the ball bonucing right in front of him. He dropped the ball in the six yards box in front of 3ODS players who somehow managed to miss the target from that range.

ODS was not to be denied the winner in this game. The winner came from Osman.

Next game against Marine Castle (Veteran team).

Match Report By Ken Wong (much earlier than expected and since i online :P)
Starting Line-Up:
GK: Kee Yong
Def (L-R): Hairy, Vincent, Kieran, Tony
Mid (L-R): Kim Chuan, Anis, Mark Teo, Ken Wong
Att: Elango, Liang Han

After last week humiliation, ODS came for this game with a lot more character and determination.
ODS started the game with the lion share of the possession, and was clearly pushing for the early goal.
With Anis and Mark Teo in the centre of the pitch, they covered so much ground and with their hard tackling, it seems as thou we had a "GREAT WALL OF ODS" there and then, and the opponents only way of passing it is through long balls, which were easily dealt with by Vincent and Kieran, who renewed their partnership in the centre of defence.

Anis and Mark Teo destroyed a attack in the middle of the pitch and the loose ball fell to Ken Wong, who wasted no time in pushing the ball towards goal and taking a long range effort from just outside the penalty box. But he could only drag his shot wide of the goal.

Next effort on goal was by Elango. A corner from the left found Elango, but his header was cleared off the line by the defender.

Shortly after, Liang Han was brought down in the penalty area.
Mark Teo was called upon to take the penalty. He sent the keeper the wrong way, shooting to the keeper's right. But there was encroachment by Kim Chuan. And Mark Teo has to retake the penalty. But he kept his nerve, and proving that he's a much better penalty taker then Andrew Johnson of Everton, (who missed 2penalties, 1 taken twice). He calmly put it to the keeper's left this time. 1-0.

The opponents restarted the game with a mission.
They soon found the break they needed from a counter attack on the right.
Their left winger outpaced our veteran Tony, and brought the ball into the penalty area towards the goal. He was clearly losing control of the ball, but Vincent, despite having Ken Wong who was closing in and Kieran who was covering him and even Kee Yong who was in good position, chose to go in for the tackle. The opponent was clearly waiting for this moment. With the slightest of contact, he fell like as if he's been shot by a bullet. But the contact was made and the penalty was given. Vincent was also cautioned for that tackle, which he claimed he was too old, thus too slow in reacting in pulling his leg back.
The opponent made no mistake from the spot either, shooting into the middle of the goal. Kee Yong somehow got a fist to it, despite going the wrong way, but could not manage to keep the ball out.

Tony then decided that he had enough and Hanz substituted Tony, replacing him at right back.

Elango had a chance to put us into the lead again but he somehow could not manage to get his head to reach the ball right in front of the goal unmarked.

Half Time

During half time, our team manager Mr Sng said he was ready to quit if the scores remain at 1-1 at full time.

Second half substitutions:
Irwin in for Ken Wong
Aidil in for Kim Chuan
Mark Penu in for Elango
Wee Kiat in for Anis

With fresher legs to restart the game, there was no doubt that we continued the attack right from the start.

We had crosses coming in from all directions in the second half.
From the wings, down the middle, any directions possible.
Liang Han was often a handful too many for his marker, who had to resort to elbows in order to keep Liang Han at bay.

Our break through came when a cross fell to the far post after some sort of a melee, n Irwin was there in the right place at the right time to chest it into the net. 2-1.

There was no turning back now. And ODS wanted to finish the game off. And so we did.
A cut back from Mark Penu to Wee Kiat, who had time to control and pick the far corner, scoring to put the team further in front. 3-1.

Substitution was then made, Hairy was replaced by Kim Chuan, with Aidil moving into left back.

ODS then had more chances on goal, but efforts were either too easy for the keeper, or just wide.

With about 10minutes to go, Liang Han was starting to show signs of fatigue. And Ken Wong came in for Liang Han.
Our 4th goal came from Mark Penu, when a lob found him on the run, who turned his marker brilliantly and left him chasing shadows, and his powerful shot killed off all hopes of the opponents.

But this wasn't the end of the story. Our defence was caught napping, which has costed us dearly in previous games, allowed the opponents to score a consolation goal.

Towards the end of the game, Ken Wong and Mark Penu both missed headers just in front of the goal.

Full Time.
ODS has recovered from the shocking defeat of last week to win this game well.

Up next, our Awards Night has been confirmed to be on 24 Nov 07, Sat at CCAB.
Please mark your calender.
Family is welcomed.
Only ONE girlfriend is allowed for singles.
End of Ken Wong's report

HSBC CMB Department

Venue: Jurong Junior College

--
Final Score 4 : 0
Scorers: Osman (x01), Dennis(x01), Gary Ong(x02)
Man Of Match: Dennis

This match we have so many players that Kee Yong and Mark Teo have to play for the opponents who did not have enough player.

I would think we were a bit complacent thinking the opponents may be an easier team, but with Kee Yong and Mark Teo on their side, they did give us some good fight and the opponents did have a few reasonably good players. Mark Teo though was consistently quite a thorn to our side.

In the end, we did managed to get a clean sheet and quite a flattening scoreline.

Dennis who got his 1st goal and 2nd MOM (after a previous catastrophic performance) not only scored but also top it off with a few fine saves in the 2nd half as our GK to keep the nice clean sheet for our team.

Well, the new editor Ken Wong claims this time round he couldn't remember much of the details much less me the original not so meticulous editor to give a good report. But this game is quite ordinary :)

##
This coming saturday 15th Sept 2007 we will have a game at our home ground at the same time. But i noticed that latecomers have not been paying their dues.. hmmm are we going back to square one?

Our team's dinner has been confirmed to be on 30th November 2007 (Friday). So no excuse!!!

NIE (11th Aug 2007)

Venue: Jurong Junior College

--
Final Score 1 : 1
Scorers: Sng(x01)
Man Of Match: Dennis

1st Half [Starting Line-Up]
GK - Dennis
Defender (R-L): Tony, Roskaider, Mark Penu, Hairy
Midfielder (R-L): Anis, Faizal, Vincent Ong, Osman
Striker: Ken Wong, Aidil

The game was started with much zeal from both side. NIE had the better half with them having at least 5 good chances all equally matched by the MOM of the game - Dennis. He kept our side in the game.

Deploying both Aidil and Ken Wong in the front was not effective as the 2 players were often caught being too static and does not create space for others nor for themselves.

Although the first chance came from our team, when a through pass from Osman on the left saw Ken Wong through with only the keeper to beat. At the same time, the keeper was making things easier for him by moving to more and more to the right creating a big space inviting Ken Wong to get this name on the scoreboard, alas all he could found in that big-space is the left post.

We got a few scares also in the first half when most Faizal's passes were intercepted and NIE relied heavily on their counter-attacks. One such incident almost resulted in us conceding a goal. Osman (having not much option from the front) made a pass to Faizal who tried a fanciful back flicked to Roskaider who did not read it too well and the striker were presented with a golden opportunity only for our GK to save it well.

At half-time, the scoreline stayed at 0-0.

2nd Half [Substitution]
Dennis for Hairy, Elango for Ken Wong, Sng for Aidil, Kee Yong for Dennis, Irwin for Anis, Liang Han for Vincent

Before long into 2nd half, a shot from NIE went into goal when Kee Yong saw it too late and could only manage to touch it which was not enough to not concede a goal.

After conceding the goal, we tried to raise the tempo slightly. Dennis requested to substitute himself out by bringing in the man he first substituted for at the start of the 2nd half.

A cross from the left found Sng connecting with the ball but good enough only miss the left post by inches.

One corner found hairy's head but the resulting header went pass the wrong side of the left post.

Another movement 1-2 play involving again Osman and Sng saw Osman through but not enough to find the much needed equalizer.

The equalizer finally came when Elango's foot met a cross well but shot was palmed by the keeper and loose ball fell to Sng - who was very quick to respond to the loose ball and set it flying into the goal's roof and earned us this draw.
