First half began with a lot of firing power from ODS. (Opponents only had 9players, and Gary and Kee Yong had to play for them.)
Shots were coming from almost everywhere. But somehow, it just seemed like it wasn't our day. Strikers were put through on goals, but they were denied but the keeper, or the cruelty of the position of the goal.
Even Osman, who skipped past a few defenders and using his trusty right foot, curling the ball towards the far post, but it was just wide. On normal days, he would have easily put that into the back of the net.
Maybe we ought to check if they used a smaller goal post which resulted in all the misses.
But ODS was not to be denied. Our first goal came from, who else but him, our top scorer Liang Han - which was a tap-in after a superb pass from Osman.
Liang Han had another chance when Osman's strike hit the crossbar and fell to him. He tried a header only for the ball to go over the crossbar this time.
Anis who overlapped down the right, chose to shoot from a tight angle which eventually hit the far left post when he could have feed the ball to Osman at the far post in a more advantageous position.
We defended our lead well, with key man and eventual Man Of the Match Aidil, who was everywhere. Destroying the opponents' attack, winning headers despite his smaller build, well-timed and executed passes.
It almost seemed like we had 2 or even 3 Aidil on the pitch.
Half time (score 1:0)
Half Time Substitution
Ken Wong in for Irwin,
Faizal in for Aidil
Tony in for Anis
Seah in for Dennis
2nd half saw the opponents coming back stronger, especially with Gary among their 11, and stringing the passes and crosses for them.
A failure to clear the ball, resulted in a meelee just outside the edge of the box, and an equaliser for the opponents.
Aidil came in again for Osman.
Our lead then came from the most unexpected scorer, Ken Wong.
Kim Chuan did a back flick towards goal, and Liang Han was there at the near post, who, with his back facing the goal, did a backpass across the goal. Ken Wong was waiting to pounce at the far post. And he had the easiest of job of tapping the ball into the back of the net, through the legs of the keeper. (I must stress that Ken Wong was left completely unmarked, his marker Gary probably look him no up... But you can't blame Gary for that too... Refer to the previous entry for Ken Wong's embrassassing moments, his super opps, bloopers and misses...)
And Ken Wong finally opened his account for ODS, if his own goal earlier in the season is not counted.
That should have been the winning goal for us, which would take us a step closer to our "Champions League" qualification.
But a counter-attack, with Gary sending a long cross, releasing the opponents, caught us short handed at the back.
A powerful and sudden shot went directly at Kumar, and he could only palm it downwards, into the path of the opponent, who shot again past Kumar for the equaliser again.
Both teams searched in vain for the winner after that.
